I am going to explain you about Gyeonghoeru Pavilion.

Gyeonghoeru Pavilion is surrounded with the artificial pond and connected with three stone bridges.

This is Gyeonghoeru Pavilion. It’s really beautiful isn’t it?

저는 여러분들께 경회루에 대해서 설명해드리려고 합니다.

경회루는 인공 연못에 둘러싸여 있으며, 세 개의 다리로 연결되어있습니다.

이것이 경회루입니다. 정말 아름답지 않나요?

The original Gyeonghoeru Pavilion was built in 1412.

The current Gyeonghoeru Pavilion was rebuilt in 1867.

Originally, in the pillars in Gyeonghoeru Pavilion, dragons whirling and rising to the sky were carved in beautifully.

원래 경회루는 1412년에 지어졌습니다.

현재의 경회루는 1867년에 새로 지어진 것입니다.

원래 경회루의 기둥에는 용이 하늘을 향해 헤엄치며 올라가는 모습이 아름답게 그려져 있었습니다.

In the past, Gyeonghoeru Pavilion and the pond was surrounded by fence.

Because Gyeonghoeru Pavilion was arresting place only for the King and royal families.

But Gyeonghoeru Pavilion sometimes used the place where the king received foreign envoys or held large banquets.

In addition, a civil service examination, archery, and a ritual for rain were carried out.

And, it is said that two bronze dragons were put in the pond to protect from fire and damages.

One had been found during dredging operation.

It has been displayed at The National Palace Museum and the other one has not been found yet.

예전에는 경회루와 경회루의 연못은 담으로 둘러쌓여 있었습니다.

왜냐하면 경회루는 왕과 왕실가족만을 위한 휴식공간이었기 때문이죠.

하지만 경회루에서는 때때로 왕이 다른나라의 사신을 접대하거나, 큰 행사를 여는 장소로도 사용되었습니다.

뿐만 아니라 과거시험, 활쏘기시험, 기우제 등도 행해졌습니다.

그리고 2마리의 청동용을 경회루를 화재와 피해로부터 보호하기 위해 경회루 연못에 넣었다고 합니다.

하나는 제설작업 중에 발견되었습니다.

그것은 국립고궁박물관에 전시되어있으며, 다른 하나는 아직 발견되지 않았습니다.

Gyeonghoeru Pavilion is a two-story building. You can see the 48 stone pillars.

Can you find any difference between inside and outside stone pillar.

Outside 24 stone pillars are square and 24 inside stone pillars are round.

Ancient Korean people thought sky is round and ground is square. Outside 24 pillars represent creation in the universe.

The 16 pillars represent four seasons and 12 months.

Gyeonghoeru Pavilion is a building that contains the principles of the Universe. Can you see the small figurines on the roof?

Figurines are angel guardians to protect against evil from the heaven.

Gyeonghoeru Pavilion has 11 figurines.

From the upstairs, you can see the scenery of Gyeongbokgung palace in the east and the mountains in the west.

경회루는 2층짜리 건물입니다. 여러분은 48개의 석조기둥을 볼 수 있습니다.

안의 24개 석조기둥과 밖의 24개 석조기둥의 차이점을 아시겠나요?

밖의 24개 석조기둥은 사각형이고, 안의 24개 석조기둥은 원 모양입니다.

옛날 한국인들은 하늘은 둥글고 땅은 네모나다고 생각했습니다. 밖의 24개 기둥은 24절기를 의미합니다.

가장 안에 있는 8개의 기둥은 우주의 섭리를 뜻합니다. 16개의 기둥은 4계절과 12달을 의미합니다.

경회루는 우주의 섭리가 깃들어 있는 건물인 것입니다. 지붕에 있는 작은 조각상들을 보실 수 있나요?

저 조각상들은 하늘에서 오는 나쁜것들을 막기 위한 수호자입니다.

경회루에는 11개의 조각상이 있습니다.

윗층에서는 동쪽에는 경복궁이, 서쪽에는 산이 있는 경치를 보실 수 있습니다.
