Jeju Gwandeokjeong Hall is one of the oldest buildings in Jeju. Gwandeok means to make your mind right and build great virtue. 제주 관덕정은 제주에서 가장 오래된 건물 중의 하나다. 관덕이란, 평소에 마음을 바르게 하고 훌륭한 덕을 쌓는다는 뜻을 가지고 있다.

The building was built by Shin Sook-cheong in the 30th year of King Sejong's reign (1448) to serve as a training ground for soldiers. The size is 5 bays in the front and 4 bays in the side, and the roof is a hipped-and-gabled roof in the shape of a (八) when viewed from the side. 이 건물은 조선 세종 30년(1448)에 신숙청이 병사들의 훈련장으로 사용하기 위해 세웠다. 규모는 앞면 5칸·옆면 4칸이며 지붕은 옆면에서 볼 때 (八)자 모양을 한 팔작지붕이다.

This building is open all over the place. The signboard of Gwandeokjeong Hall was written by Prince Anpyeong, the third son of King Sejong, but it was lost in a fire and the current writing is the work of Lee San-hae during the reign of King Seonjo. 이 건물은 사방이 탁 트이게 뚫려 있다. 관덕정의 현판은 세종대왕의 셋째 아들 안평대군의 글씨였으나, 화재로 손실되어 현재의 글씨는 선조때 이산해의 작품이다.

Gwandeokjeong Hall was characterized by a long roof eaves, but many eaves were cut off when the Japanese repaired it in 1924.
